Tourism & Recreation Valley River School Legal Description: SW 15-25-23 Inscription: The original log building was erected in 1894 on a piece of land donated to the School District by Richard Parrott. This building was located just over 1/2 mile east of this Cairn. The first teacher, May Russell, taught 10 students. The next building, A.T. Eaton package, was erected in 1910 at this site. In 1954 the last building was erected here and it existed until 1967 when the district was was consolidated into the Intermountain School Division. Mildred Abrey, with 12 pupils, was the last teacher in the district. Over the life of the buildings they served the community as a centre for church services, dances, Christmas concerts, public meetings, picnics and many other district functions. This was the first school in the R.M. of Grandview. Erected by the former students of Valley River.
